Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, they must face the depths of hell, in a war among gods, to seal their fate forever. After centuries of sleep, the gods are warring again. But eighteen-year-old Iris Winnow just wants to hold her family together.
Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross is a beautifully crafted story that captivates readers with its immersive world-building and heartfelt romance. Set in a world that feels like the 1920s blended with fantasy and magic, Ross’s attention to detail truly shines, pulling readers into a unique and enchanting setting.
Though the slow-burn romance takes time to fully develop, the build-up is entirely worth it. By the time it hits its stride, I was kicking my feet in excitement. The main character, Iris, is someone you can’t help but root for, and the dual POV with Roman adds depth to the narrative, making their love story even more compelling. I found myself deeply invested in both characters, and by the end, I was crying—not only because of the emotional journey but also because I didn’t have the second book, Ruthless Vows, on hand.
The book does end on a cliffhanger, which might leave some readers torn, but in my opinion, Ruthless Vows is a necessary sequel. I simply couldn't get enough of Iris and Roman in the first book alone.
For fans of young adult romantasy, Divine Rivals is a five-star read that I highly recommend. It's the kind of book that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page, especially for those who love slow-burn romance and richly imagined worlds.
