Real Quick

The thoughts and opinions stated in this blog are just that: thoughts and opinions. I do not expect everyone to see eye to eye, but I can promise this: everything here is honest based on my likes and dislikes.

Also, I am not a professional reviewer of books. This blog is merely a place where I can put my thoughts into words, better understanding my own musings.

Thank you.

Unblemished

Eliyana is your typical seventeen-year-old girl—ugly seventeen-year-old girl, due to the red birthmark scribbled on her face. It’s no wonder Joshua pushes her away when she gets too close. Or is it?

Life is suddenly flipped wrong-side up when her mother dies, a mysterious man named Makai shows up at her house and a certain Ky Rhyen tries to kidnap her. And it all ties to her birthmark, she soon learns. No one is who they seem, not even the young man who tried to kidnap her.

Eliyana is introduced to other worlds, called Reflections. There she learns of the war between the Verity and the Void, and she is the only one who help lead the Verity to their victory.

Let’s get right down to it: I do not like love triangles. They lead to teams (in this case Team Joshua or Team Ky) and one team supporter will end up disappointed. It also tends to complicate things just for the heck of it at times (Twilight: New Moon).

Unblemished felt different, however. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still yelling at El to pick one guy (the right guy) and stop jumping back and forth. But the situation isn’t simple for our hero, and Sara Ella makes that clear.

Next to El’s conflict of the heart, she carries the burden of leading the people to their savior: the only person who can trap the Void and prevent darkness from spreading across the Reflections!

Yeah, not a simple life she lives.

Ella did a wonderful job with the writing of this novel. I enjoyed the harmonious combination and lyrical flow of the words.

I won’t lie, I did have to re-read some paragraphs, seeing as the other worlds and their regulations complicated things, but Ella did a fine job tying the plot together.

Now, I have only read the first in the trilogy, and I am typically iffy about committing myself to a series. The Unblemished trilogy did not my TBR list—it made another list instead: my Amazon Prime shopping cart, shipping to my door sometime next week. The moment I get Unraveling, every other book I am currently reading will be put on hold until I’ve read this one through and through. Afterward, comes Unbreakable, because, yes, I ordered that one, too. It’s just that good.

Thank you, Sara Ella for introducing these Reflections to our world! Five stars all around!

As for my team: Team Ky all the way and for very good reasons. But that’s enough to fill up a whole blog entry itself.
